Strength in Numbers

Community

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've likely heard of United Way of Cass-Clay and how they’re leading the charge to prevent hunger and homelessness, prepare children to succeed, and strengthen families. They have a mission to inspire and activate the community to improve lives, and a vision to create a welcoming community where everyone can thrive. Each year, a leader in our community is appointed as the United Way Volunteer Campaign Chair to continue the momentum of reaching their ultimate goal of zero percent homelessness. This year, our very own Sarah West is that leader.

Sarah’s involvement with the United Way started in 2011 when she participated in the 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program. She has contributed in various ways since; including the fall backpack drive, selling candles for the Light the Way Campaign each fall, and most recently raising over $40,000 at the Fiesta 4 Impact Event! When so many great leaders from our community were considered for this honorable role, Sarah was humbled to be included. If you know Sarah, her heart for helping others, and her past involvement with United Way, you know she’s the perfect candidate for this role!

Light’s Core Values - Love Like Jesus, Intentional Living, Giving Grace, Help Others, and Trust That With Christ, Anything Is Possible - align seamlessly with the United Way’s mission. That's why Sarah is dedicated and passionate about the United Way.

When asked about her responsibilities for this position, she playfully said it’s all "shaking hands and kissing babies." All jokes aside, her role involves being an advocate for the incredible work the United Way is doing. She meets with groups that are already involved with the United Way and makes strategic introductions to those who are not yet involved.

One of Sarah's primary goals as Campaign Chair is to highlight that even smaller organizations, like Light Consulting, with its 12 employees, can make a significant impact. We saw firsthand, that by leveraging our [though small, yet mighty] network and connections, the Fiesta for Impact was a HUGE success!  As accountants, we know there is strength in numbers. By pooling our resources together, we can accomplish so much more than we could ever achieve alone.

Each Campaign Chair brings their own unique perspective, experiences and flair to their role. Sarah brings a faith-based component. She believes that the United Way’s work is a manifestation of God's love and that they are the hands and feet of Jesus in this community and to the people they serve. This perspective, combined with her ability to influence members of the community, sets her apart as an advocate for the United Way.

Many of you have attended or participated in an event sponsored by United Way or are already actively involved in some way. For those of you who aren’t yet, we encourage you to consider it. Remember, with many hands make light work, and there is strength in numbers.
